Today's blog is about my oldest daughter and her daughter Caila. Maura graduated with honors from University of Michigan. On her own she left everyone she knew and everything she had ever done and went to LA. Why? because she wanted to do what she wanted to do. Be creative, artistic, let people know who she is and what she wanted to be. She asked me to spot her the first months rent, because as she told me, she would be working by the end of the month. She did find a job and she did pay me back by the end of the month. She had several jobs at first, but ended up at Warner Brothers. As many of you know by now, she met and produced a number of album covers for some pretty famous artists.
I can go on about her career but that is not the point of this discussion. What she also wanted for her children was a good Christian Education. She has sent her two children to Catholic schools since first grade. She has spent thousands of dollars on all kinds of special projects that she has spear headed to help the church, the school and her children. Caila has attended a Private Girls Catholic Prep School for four years. She has had problems with ADHA and a number of other problems that I can't even begin to explain. If you are interested in finding out go to Maura McCarthey's facebook and become her friend. The crux of the problem is that they suspended Caila 9 weeks before graduation. I can't even write this without going crazy. I've defended the Catholic Church for most of my adult life. I know there were times when I too was not happy with what was going on in the Church. I've had to defend it to my Catholic friends who I went to high school and grade school with. I've tried to defend it to my own family. In this case, I can no longer defend it's attitude or it's behaviour.
Maura has a very close friend who has been very fortunate in life and has pledged to help her in her battle against this wrong doing. She is not a Catholic, but a Christian, and someone who has a blind child. She has already faced what happens when someone doesn't think you are normal. No Caila is not normal, but she is a Catholic, and she is human, and she has not been treated like she is either.
For all of you that follow this blog, forget about me, I'm a hopeless case. They can't cure what's wrong with me, but we can get behind Maura and Caila before this school ruins her life for good. I don't know what one person can do, I only know what many people can do in a case like this. Support Caila and Maura, go on her Facebook page, she has a web site offthewallgraffiti.com. If you can think of something for them to do, let her know or just do what you have been doing for me, support.
As for me, I've not been feeling well that is why I have not written, I have my CT Scan tomorrow and my follow up appointment Friday. The way I feel now, I have a feeling that I will be facing surgery soon. I'll keep you all informed. Thanks again for listing and keep the faith. Tom
